· John and Cappy co-teach "Residential Energy Systems" for the Environmental Technology-Building Energy Technology Program
at Wilbur Wright College (City Colleges of Chicago). This course details energy systems and energy efficiency technologies utilized in single
and multi-family residential building in both new construction and rehab projects.
Introduces field auditing techniques, environmental, health & safety considerations,
Energy Star certification, building commissioning procedures, and local regulatory
requirements. An off-site visit to a residential "green" building/construction site may be
scheduled as part of this course. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Building
Energy Systems Fundamentals Course (Env. Tech. 104), or consent of Department

· John Porterfield was interviewed for the January 1, 2007 special issue of Crain's Chicago Business:
"Chicago can be greener; here's what you can do"
· John provided the technical presentation for Chicago-area of American Society of Home Inspectors February 2008 meeting, covering some fine points of energy defect diagnostics and quality control for residences.
· In January 2007, Cappy Kidd provided the evening "knowledgeware" presentation for the 100th anniversary celebration and annual meeting of the Illinois Chapter of ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers.

· Informed Energy Decisions has been certified as a Design Assistance partner of the State of Illinois' new Small Business $mart Energy program. The program provides funding for energy analyses leading to the design and substantial energy upgrade of commercial properties. The SB$E brochure and application is available from www.sedac.org.
· We are the energy and green builder advisors for the first home in our region to be built to the National Association of Home Builders' "Green Building Guidelines". We are currently advising on 8 other "green" projects.
