Our Services make buildings more energy efficient

Every building is unique, and for every way that energy is used in buildings, there are many ways to make it more efficient.

How We Approach the Problem
Energy losses are not easy to diagnose. You can’t see heat or cold as it escapes unused. Because wasted energy is rarely the result of a single cause, we performance-test the whole building—structure, insulation, windows, heating-ventilation-and-cooling systems (HVAC), controls, lighting, and appliances.

We help you understand the relative importance of each condition and provide you with an action plan to solve the problems. We can also identify the most cost-effective products and recommend contractor services. We can help you sort out contractor proposals to make sure you’re not paying too much. We train contractors and builders for state-of-the art building practices. And we can oversee construction administration for building “green”.

One-Time Project or On-going Relationship?
Given your time and budget, you may want to make some critical improvements right away and come back to others later on. Having an ongoing relationship with Informed Energy Decisions means you can count on us to follow your progress and help you at each stage—planning with you the fix for urgent measures right away, followed by design advice as you get ready for major renovations down the road.

Our full range of services consists of:

1. Energy audits/Condition survey: Energy audits/condition surveys: while there are many different ways to energy-audit a building, our method is based on an on-site condition survey where we use state-of-the-art equipment to performance-test your building, and then develop an action plan that prioritizes the remedies, beginning with the fix that gets you the biggest bang for your buck.

2. Construction/Rehab administration: we oversee the implementation of your decisions to ensure the work is done correctly and for the best price.

3. New construction design assistance: we work with you and your architect from thought to finish on the design and construction of your energy efficient building.

4. Energy ratings and computer modeling of buildings: using up-to-date computer modeling, we monitor and predict the energy performance of your building. We are nationally certified to give your building its Energy Star rating as well.

5. Training contractors: contractors can’t be expected to implement energy efficiency into their work if they haven’t been trained to do it. Doing it right the first time saves everyone time and money.
